The Biocoal production plant needs to be powered by the biomass it is processing, if this is not feasible then the whole concept of woody biomass as fuel society is flawed. Circular Bioeconomy
Torrefaction is a perfect Biomass pretreatment as it produces energy when enhancing the product, this energy can then be used for the process.
If biomass enhancement needs other/additional energy input then the situation is slipping into Energy laundering.
And if it uses Fossil fuel derived energy then the carbon neutrality is in doubt, like DRAX.
